She used the sparkle like fresh snow;
Blinding, beautiful and bright
Now she’s the bottom of the ocean
A deep dark mystery wound so tight

Once she was light like a butterfly
Untainted,  fragile and wild
She’s become so heavy since then
She is Sisyphus and the boulder her mind

Now all that’s left is a portrait of who she used to be
The life left her eyes and laughter won’t come as easily
She’s still, smudged and open to interpretation
The frame around her borders is a world of isolation

There was a time she was the life of the party
Apple of every enamoured eye
After we went home she locked the door for good
Won’t come out or turn on the porch light
Dallas Jayde is a singer songwriter from Okotoks, AB who has been writing poems and songs since she was 6. She is currently working on recording these songs for her debut EP. Her goal is to bring back story driven music that evokes deep emotions in the listener. Her biggest writing  influences are Bob Dylan, Billy Joel and Mika.
"This song came out of a period of unrest within myself. I was feeling very stuck in who I have become and very distant from who I really am. This was an exercise in writing as if I was a third party watching my progression. It could almost be from the perspective of my family and friends who watched me recede into myself  over the years. Definitely one of the harder songs I’ve ever written, emotionally that is."
